Food Self-Reliance Talk-Story with Neil Abercrombie (South Kohala)
Friday, June 25, 2010, 01:15pm - 07:00pm

Meet and talk-story with Neil Abercrombie, candidate for Governor,  and help him learn even more about the exciting (and challenging) food-related issues and opportunities on our island.

Here's the schedule:

Fri., June 25, 2010:

1:15-2:15 p.m. -
School Gardens & Fresh Local Food for School Lunches - A talk-story at Waimea Middle School's Mala'ai garden -- including several students and both Mala'ai and HISGN leaders and Slow Food friends.  It's a quick stop but important that Neil understand how school gardens are a foundational piece for food self-reliance and healthier kids & communities.  Come straight to the garden please..

3:30-5 p.m. -
A talk-story on the lawn next to Kamuela Liquor Store.  We'll be serving local Big Island grass-fed beef burgers w/ Waimea vine-ripened tomatoes and greens and cold beer...and have time to talk one-to-one w/ Neil.

5:30-7 p.m -
A talk-story for the agricultural community at the Kamuela Vacuum Cooling Plant.  Everyone involved in ag is invited -- we hope to introduce Neil to the great diversity of interests, products and concerns.

Location : Waimea, South Kohala
Contact : Patti Cook 937-2833
The events are part of a 4-day School Bus Listening Tour organized for Neil to about 10 rural Big Island communities.
Cost:FREE
